Add a Notification Rule

This topic takes you through the steps required to add a Notification Rule.

  1. From the Monitoring category page click on the Add Notification Rule link to display the Add Notification Rule form.

The Add Notification Rule form consists of six (6) tabbed sub-forms:

 


Attributes

  1. Select the Notification Rule's parent Management Domain from the drop-down.

  2. Enter a Name for the Notification Rule.

    Each object in the SilverBack managed services platform requires a unique name that is as descriptive as possible.

    The maximum length of this field is 64 characters.

    If you leave the Name field blank, you will be prompted to enter it before you can save.

  3. Optionally, enter a Description for the Notification Rule.

    You can enter a description of the Notification Rule, up to a maximum of 1024 characters. You can also enter HTML links here in the format "http://<target>”, “https://<target>" or "mailto:<email_address>". The quotation marks are mandatory for HTML links.

  4. Indicate the Notification Rule’s visibility to other users by clicking on the Visible to Subdomains checkbox.

    The default visibility state is False (unchecked).

  5. Indicate the Notification Rule’s Enabled/Disabled status by clicking on the Enabled checkbox.

    The default state is Enabled (checked).

Fault Sources

  1. Click on the Fault Sources tab.

  2. Select from the following fault sources:

Assets

  1. Click on the Assets tab.

  2. Select targets by selecting one of the following radio buttons:

Users

  1. Click on the Users tab.

  2. Select from the following choices:

Severities

  1. Click on the Severities tab.

  2. Select the alert severity level(s) that you want to apply to notifications. You can select from the following choices:

Schedule

  1. Click on the Schedule tab. You can select from:

  1. To accept the default 24x7 schedule:

    1. Click on the Save button to save the Notification Rule.

  2. To create a custom schedule:

    1. Click on the Customize radio button. The schedule fields become editable.

    2. Choose the From and To dates from the respective drop-downs.

    1. Select the end date from the To drop-down.

    1. Click on the Add button to add the custom schedule.

Finishing Up

  1. Click on the Save button to save the Notification Rule.

    1. Or, click on the Save and Add New button to save the Notification Rule and add another.

    2. Or, click on the Reset button to discard your schedule and start again.

    3. Or, click on the Cancel button to abandon the operation without saving your schedule.

The Notification Rules Report refreshes to include the new Notification Rule.
