All assets in the SilverBack Managed Services Platform include Block and Override options. These options do not apply to assets themselves, but rather to Policy Components that affect them.
By enabling you to access these options from specific assets within the SilverBack user interface, SilverBack provides you with a built-in shortcut designed to speed your tasks and streamline your workflow.
You can block or override Policy Components to change a Monitoring Policy for a single asset, effectively excluding the asset from the target scope of the blocked or overridden Policy Component. Blocks and overrides are useful if you wish to make exceptions to well-defined Monitoring Policies.
For example, if some disks are typically 90% full, an 80% Threshold which should be applied to most of the disks would constantly fire for that small set. A block or an override would enable you to use the 80% Monitoring Policy across all your disks, but would block or override the Threshold value only for the smaller set of disks.
The Block option is used to prevent specific assets, or small groups of assets, from being influenced by specific Policy Components. When a block is established for a asset, the Policy Component is no longer in effect for that asset only. The Policy Component is not replaced.
The Override option is used to replace a Policy Component with values that are specific to the targeted asset. When an override is established for a asset, the original Policy Component is no longer in effect and is replaced by a new Policy Component, for that asset only.
In order to block or override a Policy Component:
You must have been granted the Block or Override privilege for the Policy Component type for which you want to block or override.
The Policy Component for which you want to override must be visible to your User account.
The target scope of the original Policy Component is not modified.
Any alerts or other persisted states generated by the blocked or overridden Policy Component are unaffected (e.g., Event Monitor counts).
