Edit a Port Monitor

You can edit the following Port Monitors attributes:

  • Resource

  • Timeout

  • Name

  • Managed Status

  • Description

  • Use Basic HTTP Authentication (HTTP/HTTPS only

  • Retries

  • Username (HTTP/HTTPS only)

  • Password (HTTP/HTTPS only)

  • Port (Sybase only)

 


To Edit a Port Monitor

  1. From the Assets category page click on the Browse Port Monitors link to display the Port Monitors report.

  2. Click on the Port Monitor that you wish to edit, and then click on the Edit button to display the Edit Port Monitor form.

Attributes

  1. Enter the Port Monitor’s new Name if you wish to change it.

    The Port Monitor’s custom name. This name will appear in all reports and alert notifications.

    The maximum length for this field is 64 characters.

  2. Enter the Port Monitor’s Description if you wish to include description information.

    Enables you to enter a description of the Port Monitor, up to a maximum of 1024 characters.

    You can also enter HTML links here in the format "http://<target>”, “https://<target>" or "mailto:<email_address>". The quotation marks are mandatory for HTML links.

  3. Enter the Port Monitor’s Resource identifier.

    The Port Monitor server’s resource identifier. For HTTP and HTTPS the identifier is the server’s URL. For all other Port Monitors the identifier can be either the server’s IP address or DNS name.

To configure a Port Monitor to connect over a non-standard port, append a colon and port number to the resource identifier. For example, to configure an FTP Port Monitor to connect over port 443, you can enter an identifier similar to 192.168.4.32:443.

 

  1. If you are editing an HTTP or HTTPS Port Monitor, and are using HTTP authentication, select the Use Basic HTTP Authentication checkbox.

    Enables you to toggle the HTTP Authentication requirement on or off (HTTP and HTTPS only)

    1. If you selected the Use Basic HTTP Authentication checkbox:

  1. If you are editing a Sybase Port Monitor, enter the Port.

    The port number upon which Sybase listens for requests (Sybase only).

  2. Select the number of Retries from the drop-down that the Port Monitor will attempt.

    The number of times to retry connecting to the database instance or HTTP/HTTPS/NetWare Port Monitor.

  3. Enter a Timeout value, in milliseconds.

    The amount of time, in milliseconds, to wait for the Port Monitor to respond to requests.

  4. Select the Manage checkbox if you wish to change the Port Monitor’s management status.

    The default selection is True (checked). If unchecked, the Port Monitor's parent device will no longer be polled or monitored for Port Monitor statistics until you restore the Port Monitor's management status.

  5. If you make a mistake and wish to start again, click on the Cancel button.

  6. Click on the Save button to accept and enter your changes.

    1. Or, click on the Save and Add New button to save the Port Monitor and add another.

    2. Or, click on the Cancel button to abandon the operation.
