Generate Alerts on SNMP Traps

Unlike Windows and Syslog events, thresholds and Windows services, traps have no corresponding Policy Component monitors in the SilverBack managed services platform. That is because devices that send traps are configured to send them to management stations. To monitor traps using SilverBack, those devices must be configured to send their trap messages to the SilverStreak that is managing their parent Management Domain . See your devices' documentation for information about their trap agent configurations.

Once SilverStreak is receiving trap messages you'll need to ensure that alerts are generated upon trap message receipt. You do this using Notification Rules. When you add or edit Notification Rules you can choose which fault sources you want to generate alerts, including traps.

For the purposes of this topic we will assume that you already have an operational Notification Rule , and now you want it to generate alerts for traps.
