Manage a Cisco PIX, SonicWALL or Fortinet Firewall

SilverBack's default Monitoring Policies contain several default Monitoring Policy Templates (MPTs) that provide a standard, base-level of monitoring support for network infrastructure devices such as routers and switches and firewalls.

A Monitoring Policy Template is a sample Monitoring Policy - it cannot be applied to a target scope. It is used to create a standard set of monitoring rules that can be built once, and then used in many Monitoring Policies.

SilverBack provides you with three MPTs that contain Event Monitors to enhance your firewall monitoring service:

Best practice for enhanced Cisco PIX, Fortigate and/or SonicWALL firewall monitoring is to create a Firewalls Monitoring Policy and then add those MPTs to it. Or, you can add them to an existing policy. In addition, built-in security reports provide visibility into your firewall service levels.

See Add a Monitoring Policy for instructions for creating a Monitoring Policy.

Use only the Attributes tab to configure the policy's:

  • Parent Management Domain

  • Name

  • Optional description

  • Visibility to subdomains

  • Enabled/Disabled status

  • Applicability to desktops (in this case, not applicable)

Then, return to this topic to continue with the following procedures to manage your Cisco PIX, Fortigate or SonicWALL firewall:

Adding a Monitoring Policy Template to a Monitoring Policy
