Directory Services - Basic - Contains an Event Monitor and thresholds for basic Active Directory and DNS monitoring

Best practice for enhanced Exchange and Active Directory monitoring, therefore, is to add those MPTs to the IT policy. In addition, built-in performance reports provide visibility into your Exchange and Active Directory service levels.

From the Monitoring category page click on the Browse Monitoring Policies link to display the Monitoring Policies report.
Click on a Monitoring Policy, and then click on the Edit button to display the Edit Monitoring Policy form.
Click on the Templates tab.
In the Templates tab, expand your own Service Provider Management Domain, then expand the All Monitoring Policy Templates selector.
Scroll down until you see the policy template(s) you want to include, then click in their corresponding checkboxes to select them.
Click on the Save button.
The display refreshes to the Monitoring Policies Report. Now, you will have highly advanced monitoring capabilities for your Active Directory and Exchange monitoring service, including insightful performance reports as described below.
From the Reports category page click on one of the following Performance > Applications options:
Active Directory
Exchange 2000/2003
The selected performance report appears, and displays a summary of each Active Directory or Exchange server's performance data.
To trend the report, select a server or a set of servers, then select a Granularity, From time and To time.
Click on the Refresh button to display a trended report with a chart.
You can view other Active Directory and Exchange reports by clicking on the Report Type filter, and then selecting from these reports.
