Move Files To or From a Remote System

A common systems management task is that of transferring files between monitored devices. SilverBack's File Transfer feature, part of the SilverBack Remediation Pack, enables you to:

Transferring Files

File Transfer is also available via an option from the Assets or Devices Reports. On either report, click on the device, then select the More > Tools > File Transfer option.

Or, from the asset's Infopage, expand the Tools icon in the Actions pane, then click on the File Transfer option.

 

  1. From the Remediation category page click on the File Transfer link to display the File Transfer form.

You will use both tabs in the File Transfer form.

  1. In the Select Device tab, expand the Device selector to locate the Windows device, then select the device's corresponding radio button.

 

  1. Click on the File Transfer tab to display the File Transfer tab form. You can now proceed with either:

 


Getting Files

  1. In the File Transfer tab form, double-click on the drive icon (C:\, D:\, etc.) to display the drive’s directory structure.

Or, you can click on the drive icon, then click on the Open Directory button.

 

 

You can sort the File Transfer tab form display by clicking on the Name, Size or Modified column headers. Clicking again returns the form to its original display sort.

 

  1. Double-click on the icon for the folder from which you want to get the file.

    1. You can repeat this step (up or down) to navigate nested directories.

 

  1. Once you have located the file you want to get, click on its icon to select it.

The file becomes highlighted for easy identification.

 

  1. Click on the Get File button.

  2. In the File Download dialog window, click on the Save button.

 

  1. In the Save As dialog window, select the file’s destination location on your local system, then click on the Save button.

The web browser’s status bar displays the operation’s progress.

 

  1. Or, click on the Cancel button to abandon the operation.

  2. Click on the Dismiss button to dismiss the File Transfer form.

 


Putting Files

  1. In the File Transfer tab form, double-click on the drive icon (C:\, D:\, etc.) to display the drive’s directory structure.

 

  1. Double-click on the icon for the folder to which you want to put the file.

    1. You can repeat this step (up or down) to navigate nested directories.

 

  1. To select a file, either:

    1. Click on the Browse button to open the Choose File dialog window, where you can select the file to transfer from your local system.

    2. Type the path to the file into the Browse text field.

If you manually enter the filename and path, ensure that you enter a file that actually exists on your workstation. Otherwise, a bogus, zero-byte file is created on the remote system.

 

 

  1. Click on the Open button.

  2. If you make a mistake, click on the Cancel button to go back to the File Transfer form and try again.

  3. In the File Transfer form, click on the Put File button.

The web browser’s status bar displays the operation’s progress.

  1. Click on the Dismiss button to dismiss the File Transfer form.
