Produce Performance Graphs

The SilverBack user interface provides easy access to performance reports, which aid you in identifying trends and patterns to help analyze and identify issues. You can generate trended reports with graphs to further assist in your analysis.

For the purposes of this FAQ, we will assume that you have devices for which you want to view trended reports, and that you have been monitoring them for a period of time sufficient to generate trended data.

This topic takes you through the following procedures:


Viewing Performance Reports

  1. From the Reports category page click on the Performance report type you wish to view.

    Choices include:

    • Networks

    • Systems

    • Applications

    • Port A port can either be the identifier used by protocols to distinguish among multiple, simultaneous connections to a single destination host or a physical connection on a network Device. Monitors

    • Appliance Backup

    • Event Monitors Summary

    • Stored Event Distribution

  1. Click on the specific report you want displayed.

For the purposes of this tutorial we will use the Network Performance Summary report. The instructions apply equally to all performance reports.

 


Filtering Reports

SilverBack Reports enable you to set report filters so that you can determine which items you want displayed in a report.

The common report filters include:

 

Group Filter

To filter a report by Group:

  1. Click on the Group filter.

  2. Select the group for which you wish to view statistics from the drop-down.

  3. Click on the Apply button.

 

Show Filter

To filter a report by a single item:

  1. Click on the row of the item you for which you want to generate a report.

  2. Select One Item from the Show filter drop-down.

  3. Click on the Apply button.

 

If you have not selected an item, the Show filter will only offer the All Items option.

 

To filter a report for all items:

  1. Click on the row of the item you for which you want to generate a report

  2. Select All Items from the Show filter drop-down.

  3. Click on the Apply Button

 

Granularity, From and To Filters

You can create trended reports for an individual item, or several items, over time. These trended reports are generally accompanied by a graph, which displays the trended data.

When creating a trended report you must specify the unit of time being measured, the start time and the end time, which is accomplished with the Granularity, From and To filters.  

Valid Granularity values are:

Generating Trended Reports

  1. From the Reports category page click on the Performance report type you wish to view.

    Choices include:

    • Networks

    • Systems

    • Applications

    • Port Monitors

    • Appliance Backup

    • Event Monitors Summary

    • Stored Event Distribution

  2. Click on the specific report you want displayed.

 

If you multi-select items, the trended report will be generated for the first item you clicked on when performing the multi-select.

 

  1. Ensure that the One Item option from the Show filter drop-down in the Filters pane is selected. If not, select it.

 

  1. Select the desired value from the Granularity filter drop-down. The default value is Hourly.

 

  1. Set the desired start time from the From filter drop-down.

 

  1. Set the desired end time from the To filter drop-down.

 

  1. Click on the Apply button.

The trended report, complete with a graph, displays.
