Search for Data in SilverBack

SilverBack’s powerful Search and Find capabilities provide you with several options for mining user-specified information from large reports. Both functions discover text within user-specified text strings. For example, a Find or Search criteria of “mac” will return results for both “Macintosh” and “MAC Address”. SilverBack’s Search and Find functions are not case-sensitive.

This topic takes you through the steps to perform the following tasks:

Searching for Information

Search enables you to dynamically filter any supported report to display only rows that contain your search criteria. Search criteria are ANDed by column so that you can filter the report to display only rows that match all column criteria.

Certain SilverBack reports do not include a Search bar - the Health Summary, Collection Failure Test Results and Security Suggestions Reports. All other SilverBack reports can be searched using the Search bar.

  1. On any SilverBack report except those mentioned above, click on the Actions pane's Show Search filter.

  1. Enter your search criteria in the columns you wish to filter the report.

  2. To filter using an Icons column such as SNMP, WIN, and Effectively Enabled, click on the ellipsis ( ... ) button under the column header and select an icon.

You can specify multiple Search criteria of differing categories. For example, you can search for all instances of assets contained within a specific Management Domain that also are of type SNMP.

  1. Click on the Refresh button. The report refreshes to display only rows that match your search criteria.

  1. When you are finished, you can click on the Actions pane's Hide Search filter to dismiss the Search filter.

Finding Information

Find enables you to serially search for all instances of a user-supplied text string. You can use the operators found in the Find filter to narrow or widen your Find.

Unlike the standard Windows Ctrl-F Find, SilverBack’s Find scans all matching data in the current report, not just data visible on the screen.

  1. On any SilverBack report, click on the Show Find filter.

  1. Enter your find criteria in the Find dialog's text field.

  1. Click on the Find Next button, or press Alt+N, to highlight the first (or next) matching item.

  2. Click on the Find Previous button, or press Alt+P, to go back to the previous matching item.

  1. When you are finished, you can click on the Hide Find filter to dismiss the Find filter.
